SPELLBOUND IN HALIFAX – The Regional Bee!

Bee season is well underway in Halifax, and schools are abuzz with students studying new words, expanding their vocabularies and honing their language skills. Postmedia Canspell, is an exciting program that celebrates academics in a sporting environment. With the support of Egg Farmers of Canada, a proud sponsor of Canspell, the program offers the positive aspects of competition – personal achievement, sportsmanship and fair play – combined with the benefits of study and the skill of public speaking.

After the fun and excitement of school bees, qualifying spellers will meet on Feb. 25that Citadel High School’s Spatz Theatre to compete at the Halifax Chronicle Herald Regional Spelling Bee. There, they will have the opportunity to make some new friends and shine on stage. Top prize, courtesy of Egg Farmers of Canada, is a $5,000 Canspell Education Award.

The winning speller also earns a trip to Toronto at the end of March to take part in the Postmedia Canspell National Spelling Bee, where they’ll compete for top honours and a prize pool of $15,000, courtesy of Egg Farmers of Canada!

CBC Television will broadcast the exciting event across the country on April 1st .

So stay tuned to this hive of spelling activity…
